“ … so far as I am aware no one has thought it worth while to take note of these little things, of no consequence in the current of great affairs but important to the persons whom they affect, I have thought it might be interesting to set down on paper before I forgot them the incidents, trifling in themselves, which seem to have changed the course of my life.”
