The Big Thicket is defined geographically to include Hardin, Polk, Tyler, and Liberty counties but items about neighboring counties are included when pertinent. Most of the citations involve plants, animals, geology, conservation of resources, industry [lumber, oil & agriculture], county & village history, prominent citizens, community life, Indians, literature [drama, fiction and folklore], travel journals, and historical events.

The scope of the bibliographical material is books, parts of books, pamphlets, periodical articles, theses, manuscripts, moving pictures, and government documents.

The book was possibly published in wraps and later cloth bound by the National Geographic Library from which this was withdrawn. It has the usual withdrawal marks, and dried glue and tape residue. There are, however, no marks of any kind to the text and photographs of which there are about fifteen. The cover picture is a sundew. The book size is 5 ½” x 8 ¾”.
